Risks & management

Hypertensive disorders (gestational hypertension 4%, pre-eclampsia 10%)

  • Blood pressure surveillance
  • Aspirin prophylaxis

IUGR (10%)

  • Third trimester growth scans

Caesarean section (40-50%)

Preterm labour (10-15%)

Abdominopelvic lesions (obstructing vaginal birth or affecting Caesarean section)

  • MRI to map lesions

CNS lesions (affecting regional anaesthesia)

  • Spinal imaging
  • Anaesthetic review

No change in stillbirth, maternal mortality or VTE
